PROFESSIONAL SERVICES
`
BASIC SERVICES OF FUNERAL DIRECTOR & STAFF $1,695 (required)
Our basic service fee includes, but is not limited to: staff to process and respond to the initial request for service; shelter of the remains for up to 48 hours until the public memorial or funeral activity or final disposition; arrangement conference and consulting with the family or other responsible parties; arrangement of the funeral or tribute ritual; preparing, recording and filing legally required documents and vital statistics; preparation and placement obituary notices; and coordinating final disposition with those providing other portions of the funeral such as cemetery, crematory, clergy members, fraternal organizations, vault companies and others as required. The basic service fee also reflects each family’s proportionate share of those fixed business expenses (overhead) associated with (1) having staff available at all times and (2) maintaining state-licensed facilities within which to process necessary arrangements. These overhead expenses include, but are not limited to: (a) a portion of employees’ salaries; health insurance and payroll taxes; (b) a portion of buildings; grounds and parking lot costs; utilities; telephone expense; property taxes and insurance; (c) professional licensing; legal and accounting fees; record keeping; secretarial and administrative expenses; as well as (d) inventory, equipment and supplies. This fee for our basic services and overhead is non-declinable and will be added to the total costs of the funeral arrangements you select. This fee is already included in our charges for: Direct Cremation; Immediate Burial; Direct Forwarding of Remains to Another Funeral Firm; Direct Receiving of Remains from Another Funeral Firm.
EMBALMING $515
Except in certain special cases (see below) embalming is not required by law. Embalming may be necessary if you select certain funeral arrangements, such as a service with viewing. If you do not want embalming, you usually have the right to choose an arrangement that does not require you to pay for it such as immediate burial or direct cremation. Most common carriers require embalming and it is usually necessary for all foreign transfers. Maine law requires embalming when the death is attributed to certain infectious diseases or, with limited exceptions, when the body does not reach its final destination (such as a cemetery or crematory) within 48 hours. It is our firm’s policy to request either embalming or a sealed casket if the body is going to be present for indoor memorial activities, whether viewed or not. We highly recommend embalming when the body is going to be dressed, when the body is going to be viewed, and when the body is going to be entombed.
OTHER PREPARATION OF THE BODY $215
This charge includes but is not limited to: washing and disinfection of remains; cosmetic procedures; restoration; dressing; hairdressing by our staff; and placing the body in the selected casket or container for cremation or burial.
SPECIAL CARE OF AUTOPSY & ORGAN DONATION $200
This charge includes: Reconstructive restoration and/or special care of autopsied remains and/or organ donors when necessary; washing and disinfection of remains; cosmetic procedures; dressing; hairdressing by our staff; and placing the body in the selected casket or container for cremation or burial.
SHELTERING OF REMAINS (PER DAY) $50  Quantity
This charge is made beginning on the 4th day our facilities are used to shelter the remains when no post-death or ceremonial activities occur.
