Obituary for Marian Hazel Ginn

ROCKLAND & UNION – Marian H. Ginn, 99, died peacefully, surrounded by loving friends and family, Thursday, October 27, 2016 at the Wadsworth Home in Union.

Born in Warren, February 4, 1917, she was the daughter of Maurice and Mildred Stevens Ginn. Educated locally, Marian was a 1935 graduate of Rockland High School. Following high school, she completed one year of post graduate studies, before graduating from Ballard Business School. She later attended Glen Cove Bible College.

Always a hard worker, Marian began her career with the City of Rockland, working as a clerk in all departments. She later moved to Camden-Rockland Water Company where she was employed for 15 years. She finished her career with CMP, retiring in 1979 after 25 years of service.

Marian has lead a life of service to others. She has logged countless hours volunteering for many local organizations. During WWII, she became the first volunteer for Rockland Fire Department, driving the ambulance. Her interest in healthcare continued while she volunteered at the old Knox Hospital and later with Pen Bay Auxiliary where she earned her 25 year pin. She gave of her time at Kno-Wal-Lin Hospice, as well as the American Red Cross. Her volunteering spanned from the ARC Blood Donor program to the donation of more than three gallons of her own blood over the course of her lifetime.

For over 39 years she served as secretary for the Community Concerts Association. She was a member of the Whip & Spur Riding Club, The Rubenstein Club, where she served as secretary for over 12 years, the Thespian Group, and the Rockland Woman’s Club. Marian was also an active member of the First Baptist Church of Rockland.

Most recently, Marian has enjoyed her time at the Wadsworth Home in Union. The care she received from Orlene and Malcolm Wadsworth was second to none. She has been sustained by the faithful friendship of Marian Robinson who has been a volunteer caregiver for many years. Together the Marian’s enjoyed going grocery shopping every Thursday, followed by lunch and then sitting by the water in front of Marian’s home. If Marian needed anything she was always available to her, sometimes going to her home more than once a day. She took her to all of her appointments and sat with her through difficult nights and hospitalizations. When Marian was confined to a residential home Marian visited every Thursday, without fail, bringing her any groceries or other items she might need. Every week she would send an email to Carol, Ms. Ginn’s niece, with an update of Marian's condition. The family is eternally grateful for the love and care Marian has received from Marian Robinson and the Wadsworth's. It helped her maintain a long life.

Marian’s passing marks the end of an era. She truly was a remarkable woman who will be greatly missed.
Predeceased by a sister Mary Elizabeth Ginn Rice in 1970; and a niece Mary Susan Rice Kania; Marian is survived by a niece Carol Anne Rice Ashton and her husband Robert of Moultonborough, New Hampshire; her friends and care-givers, Orlene and Malcolm Wadsworth of Union and Marian Robinson of Thomaston; a well as three grandnieces and a grandnephew and their families.
