UNION – Stanley J. Rintz, Sr., 86, died unexpectedly following a brief illness, Monday, January 2, 2017, at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.

Born June 27, 1930 in New York City, he was the son of Stanley and Mae DeRoever Rintz. Educated in New York and New Jersey, Stan was a 1948 graduate of Roxbury High School.

Following high school, Stan entered the work force. Over the years he had a varied career, holding positions in many different industries. As a young man he worked as a bar tender and caddie at a local country club as well as working in the mail room at Forbes Magazine in New York. It is said that Stan had an engineering mind and was always looking to make things better. While at Forbes he found a way to improve the mail system.

In April 1951, Stan married Dorothy Rekun. Together they made their home in New Jersey where they welcomed two daughters, Dottie and Terry into their family. In 1964 the family moved to Maine. Here Stan was employed at Van Baalens as Vice President of Manufacturing.

Throughout his life he continued in the clothing industry for companies such as CB Sports and London Fog. After his marriage to Dorothy ended, Stan continued working in the garment industry. He later married Dianne Mitchell Staffeld. Living locally they welcomed a third daughter, Carolyn, before their marriage ended a short time later.

In 1971 while working at Van Baalens, Stan met Barbara Bay, a local Occupational Therapist who came in for material scrap cloth to use for projects with her patients. As the story goes, Stan in jest told Barbara she could no longer have scrap goods at no cost unless she went on a date with him. The rest as they say, is history.

Together Stan and Barbara operated the Ocean View Motel in Belfast where they added a cocktail lounge. For many years Stan was employed with the Samoset Resort Properties, selling timeshares in Rockport and Hilton Head, SC. In 1984 Stan started the Regional Activities Guide of Maine. For over 25 years he sold and produced this booklet.

Over the years he has made many friends and acquaintances. His was very outgoing and could carry on a conversation with anyone. He was charismatic and youthful with a larger-than-life personality.

Spending time on his beloved Crawford Pond was one of Stan’s favorite pastimes. Fishing and boating were always on the agenda and he could often be quoted as saying ‘just one more cast!’ He loved entertaining, hosting horseshoe tournaments and family gatherings at his home.

Predeceased by his wife Barbara Rintz in 2006; Stan is survived by his children, Dorothy McBride and her husband James of Hilliard, OH, Terry Hrabosky and her husband Pat of Geneva, FL, Ann-Marie Rintz and her husband Brian Goulding of Rockland, Stanley Rintz, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of Windham; three step-children, Tamara Harris and her husband Michael of Atlanta, GA, Catherine McCullough and her husband Daniel of Bethel, VT, Alexander Ribar of Montville; a brother Robert Rintz and his wife Leslie of New Jersey; three grandchildren, Michelle Simon and her husband Michael, Shannon Kvorjak, Jordan McBride; as well as two great-grandchildren, Trace and Tanner Kaufman.
