Obituary for Gordon Perry Wotton

CAMDEN - Gordon P. Wotton, 90, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at Windward Gardens in Camden following a period of declining health.

Born in Rockland, May 12, 1926, he was the son of Ira and Hattie Ryder Wotton.

A World War II, U.S. Navy veteran he served from 1944 – 1946 and saw action in the Pacific Theater on the U.S.S. Osage.

Returning to civilian life, he worked at the Courier Gazette, as a Knox County Sherriff’s Deputy, Vinalhaven constable, taxi driver on Vinalhaven and Able Bodied Seaman on both North Haven and Vinalhaven ferry. He retired in 1989 from the Maine State Ferry Service.

Gordon served for several years on the board of selectman in Vinalhaven including time as the chairman. He belonged to the Grand Lodge of Maine, Moses Webster Lodge of Masons #145, Woodcock-Cassie-Coombs American Legion Post No. 18 and the Vinalhaven Lions Club.

Predeceased by his wife Patsy B. Wotton and two sons Robert Wotton and Marc Bradley, he is survived by his daughter Lorinda Bradley-Lewis and her husband Michael of Severna Park, Maryland; his son Alan Wotton of Texas; grandsons Thad Bradley-Lewis and wife Lucia Schaefer, Evan Bradley-Lewis; granddaughter Megan Wotton and great-granddaughter Camden Wotton, as well as special friend Norma Philbrook of Owls Head.

A graveside service at Sterling Cemetery in Warren, will be announced in the spring.
