WEST ROCKPORT – H. David Haynes, 81, longtime proprietor of Seacoast Security, died Friday, November 17, 2017, surrounded by his family, at the Sussman House in Rockport after a brief illness.

Born in Concord, Massachusetts, March 27, 1936, he was the son of Herbert M. and Velma M. Handley Haynes. He grew up on the Haynes family farm in Sudbury, a Massachusetts town originally settled by the Haynes family.
Much of David’s tenacious work ethic was formed by his early formative years on a traditional New England farm.
He attended Sudbury and Maynard schools and later earned a degree in Mechanical Drafting from Wentworth Polytechnic Institute in Boston.

On March 27, 1954, he married his high school sweetheart R. Jean Murray in Sudbury. The couple made their first home in Maynard, MA, where David worked while attending Wentworth. After earning his degree, David’s employment as a Mechanical Draftsman was with General Radio Corporation in Bolton and Concord, Massachusetts.

In 1977, he moved with his family, which by then included four children, to West Rockport, where he quickly became owner of Seacoast Security. David became recognized as a knowledgeable leader in the security / monitoring business. He led that company in the acquisition of other like business’s, to the present-day which includes more than 100 employees with seven branch offices.

A devoted husband, father and grandfather, David particularly enjoyed spending time at his Lake St. George house, aptly named ‘Camp David’. This became a cherished family gathering spot where he could often be seen happily sitting in his captain’s chair, enjoying his favorite cocktail, a ‘Red, White & Blue.

He always looked forward to annual fly-in fishing trips to Rainbow Lake, accompanied by his sons and friends.

An avid golf enthusiast, David was a long-time member of Goose River Golf Club and Samoset Golf Club. Following his 2012 retirement, David and Jean spent winters in Port Orange FL, at Spruce Creek Fly-In, where he enjoyed the friendship of fellow residents and members at Spruce Creek Country Club.

One of David’s greatest thrills was throwing the opening pitch at Fenway Park for the June 15, 2005, Boston / Cincinnati game. This was made possible by being the highest bidder at a Make-A-Wish Foundation auction. Having spent many hours practicing for the event, David was pleased to pitch a strike that day.
He was a long-time active member of the Camden Rotary Club.

Other than his parents, David was pre-deceased by two sisters, Pauline Houle and Virginia Hazen. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Jean of West Rockport, and by his four children, Pamela J. Pearson and her husband Charles, Janet B. Haynes all of Rockport, D. Scott Haynes and his wife Susan of Monson and Stephen M. Haynes of Appleton. Also surviving David are his 12 grandchildren, Christopher Pearson, Stephen Pearson, Harrison Pearson and his wife Carla, Jared Sawyer and his wife Jestine, Jacob Sawyer, Jaclyn El-Hajj and her husband Ryan, Matthew Haynes and his wife Raechelle, Aaron Haynes and his companion Elana Jadallah, Amy Haynes, Juliana Haynes, Marshall Haynes and Keenan Haynes; plus eight great-grandchildren, Adelyn Pearson, Emily Reed, Ivan Sawyer, Evelyna Sawyer, Oliver El-Hajj, Cooper El-Hajj, Eli Haynes and Skylar Haynes, as well as several nieces and nephews.
