WARREN - Walter F. Henry, 96, died peacefully at his home Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018 with family by his side. Born in Thomaston, August 26,1922, he was the first son of Arthur J. and Mary Linekin Henry. Walter grew up in Thomaston, graduating in 1941 from Thomaston High School. He enlisted and served in the US Navy during World War II, spending much of his time at sea. On leave from duties, he married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth L. Fales on March 26, 1945 in Thomaston. After being discharged and returning home he and his wife settled in Warren where he was a poultry farmer.

After years in the hen business, they moved to the Gray area where he was farm manager at Opportunity Farm for Boys. Later he worked as a caretaker for various estates.

Returning to Warren to enjoy his retirement years, he and Elizabeth spent time traveling; which included twice across country, cruises to Alaska, Panama Canal and Bermuda, as well as many short road trips to out-of-the-way places. He loved the camp with big family gatherings. Always self-reliant, up until just a few months ago, he cut and split his own firewood. He had a special place in his heart for the many dogs and cats that he had over the years. He enjoyed his vegetable gardens and tending the flower gardens with his wife.

Predeceased by his beloved wife of 72 years, his son Arthur E. Henry, granddaughter Emily Hathaway, and great-grandson Shai Hathaway, and his 5 sisters and 1 brother, Walter is survived by his brother, Arthur D. Henry of Thomaston; daughters Patrica Monroe and her husband Charles of Warren, Beth Edwards and her husband David of Sanger, California; daughter in law Theresa Henry of Warren; 8 grandchildren Jennifer Monroe, Daniel Monroe and his wife Julie, Andrew Henry and his wife Dee, Arnold Henry, Amanda Nickles and her husband Dwight, Amy Bulger and her husband Chris, Peter Hathaway and his wife Kristin, Sara Severson and her husband Mike; 15 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews and extended family members. Walter's family has chosen to remember his life privately.
