UNION – Margaret ‘Maggie’ Thompson, 95, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, Monday, November 26, 2018.

Born in Rockland, October 16, 1923, she was one of ten children born to Frank and Etta Rackliff Thompson. Educated locally, she was a 1941 graduate of Rockland High School.

After graduation, Margaret married Albert Thompson, who affectionately called her ‘Maggie’. The pair were married in Rockland where they resided all of their married life.

Throughout her working career, Maggie worked as a bookkeeper and administrative assistant at several local transportation companies, including, Sandborn’s, B&R and Pen Bay Transport.

Maggie and Albert enjoyed attending local fairs and especially loved going to the horse races. Her family remembers even after her husband passed away she still found a way to get to the races, often betting and winning. Annual trips to the Rockland Lobster Festival were another favorite pastime.

When not working, Maggie kept busy as a homemaker, enjoying cooking and caring for the needs of her family. She could often be seen doing a cross-word puzzle in her down time. Her daughter remembers she was a strong willed woman who was a hard worker her entire life.

A member of Littlefield Memorial Baptist Church, she attended the Over 50 Club often. Most important in her life was her family and she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, attending field trips whenever she could.

She will be sadly missed.

Predeceased by her husband; all of her siblings; and a daughter Cindy Young; Maggie is survived by her daughter Janet Slader and her husband Wilfred B. ‘Jess’ of Union; her son-in-law Wayne Young of Union; three grandchildren, Wilfred A. Slader, Jacob Owen Slader both of Union, and Michael Young of Warren; a great-grandson Logan Young; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to visit from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland. A graveside service at South Parish Cemetery, Martinsville, will be announced in the spring.
