Obituary for Craig Walter Boland

Print
ROCKLAND – Craig W. Boland, 65, died peacefully yet unexpectedly, surrounded by his loving family, Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport.

Craig is survived by his son Caleb Boland, his daughter Sarah Boland, brother David Boland, sister Susan Wilcox, granddaughter Rivers Boland and grandson Blaine Kenneth Craig Boland.

He was predeceased by a brother (Alan) Kelly Boland, his mother Sabra Boland, father Walter Boland, his son Micah Todd Boland, and his nephew David P. Boland Jr.

A graduated of Rockland District High School, Class of 1971, Craig was into history and writing. During school he played football for the Rockland Tigers and continued to play football with his friends after that. He also enjoyed playing Frisbee, poker, and billiards; as well as music, especially blues, classic rock and even some modern music.

Craig was mostly known by the community as the ‘Snappy's pizza man’. Craig worked at The Idle Hour tavern before it closed. He spent some time driving taxi for Schooner Bay, running the deli at Southend Grocery and spent a short time at The Hamburger Haven. Retiring in 2006, he left a lasting impression on all co-workers wherever he worked.

Craig loved spending time with all of his friends whenever they could get together. His family fondly remembers the yearly card games at the house on Ocean Street. Craig always had a lot of love for his friends. Craig loved visiting the flea markets, antique shops and old graveyards with one of his best friends, Annette Hutchinson; and every once in a while, his kids got to go along.

In the summer of 1975 Craig married Elizabeth Godard, and together they had three children, Micah, Caleb and Sarah. Craig loved his family with all his heart and always made sure they had everything that they would need. Craig did the best he knew how, with what little he had, and would always figure things out. There really aren't any words that could describe the amount of love Craig had for his family.

In 2006, Craig joined the Maine APA pool league and was a member of ‘Trouble of All Kinds’. Craig greatly enjoyed his time playing in the Maine APA mainly because he played on a team with his son, Caleb. In 2008 the team won the state championships and earned a trip to Las Vegas to play in the National Championships. Craig was a fierce competitor and a great teammate. Craig was able to play on the same team as his son and daughter before he had to retire due to health reasons. He was always talking about making a comeback. Up until his final week, he played pool a couple nights a week at Ted Reed's house.
Craig was a great man with a beautiful soul and a positive energy around him. He will be sorely missed by many friends and all his family. Craig's spirit will always be around us and watching out for us.

"Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night."
Edgar Allan Poe
