Carroll, 88, died Sunday, May 12, 2013, at Knox Center for Long Term in Rockland, after a brief period of declining health.
Born in Rockland, July 2, 1924, she was the daughter of Lloyd W. and Beulah Coggan Oxton.   Growing up in Thomaston, she was educated in local schools and was a 1942 graduate of Thomaston High School.  For three years she worked with New England Telephone Company. 
Her first marriage was to Glen Athearn with whom she had one daughter, Judith.  In 1946, she married Maurice Carroll, Jr.  Mr. Carroll died in 1980.
Mrs. Carroll was a longtime member of the West Rockport Baptist Church. 
Most recently she resided at the Stella - Maris House in Rockland.
Other than her husband and parents, she was pre-deceased by a brother.   She is survived by her daughter Judith Hopkins and her companion Luther LaRue of Hope; three grandchildren, Ed Beverage, Jr., Aamy Beverage both of North Haven, Stuart Beverage of Elizabethtown, PA; four great-grandchildren, Ann Marie Beverage, Joshua Beverage, Christopher Beverage all of North Haven, Desiree Mayo of Bangor; one great-great grandson, Tobe; her brothers-in-law, Royce Carroll and his wife Dot of West Rockport, Phil Carroll and his wife Arline of Randolph;  as well as many nieces and nephews, each one whom she considered special.
Friends and relatives are invited to visit from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 20, 2013, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m.  The Reverend Harold Carpenter will officiate.   Interment will be at a later date in Maine Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Augusta.

Born in Gardiner, September 28, 1940, he was raised in Randolph by Herbert and Martha Sherman.  Educated locally, he was a 1959 graduate of Gardiner High School. 

Rubens incredible work ethic led him to become self employed at the age of 12.  After graduating high school he has owned and operated a used car dealership in Randolph for several years.  He also owned a grocery business, Tuttle’s Liquidation in Randolph.
 
On October 2, 1971, Ruben married Ann Rines at the First Baptist Church in Fairfield.  Together the couple moved to Rockland where they have resided for over 40 years.  Ruben was well known as the owner of Mid-Coast Auto Sales, and in 1973 he and Ann opened Tuttle’s Shoe Barn in Rockland, eventually operating five in locations. 

An avid philatelist, Ruben was president of the Knox County Stamp Club which met at his home.  He also enjoyed dabbling in comic book and die cast car collecting.  

He had a generous spirit and on more than one occasion donated many truck loads of shoes to Russia, the Salvation Army and Goodwill.  He also enjoyed preparing Thanksgiving baskets and often gave money and tires to people in need.  He loved and was passionate towards his wife, children and grandchildren.  He was a humorous to fellow car dealers, bankers, receptionists and parts stores employees, garages, waitresses, customers, etc.  Later in life, Ruben could be found giving lollipops to the children and grown-ups weekly at Lakeview Presbyterian Church where he made many friends.  

Predeceased by a brother Kenneth E. Tuttle, in 2002 and daughter-in-law Laura Shive Tuttle in 2012; Ruben is survived by his wife Ann Tuttle of Rockland; his daughter Laurie Lombardo and her husband Stephen of Waldoboro; his sons, Richard Tuttle of Raynham, Massachusetts, Stephen Tuttle of Cushing; sisters, Kathleen Hebb and her husband Paul of Randolph, Betty Monteith of Chelsea, Maine, Roxy Gervis and her husband Roger of Randolph; three grandchildren Marissa Daddio and her husband Jeffrey of Chelsea, MA, Caleb Lombardo, Janna Lombardo both of Waldoboro; several half-brothers and half-sisters; and many nieces and nephews.  

Family and friends are invited to visit from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.  A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Lakeview Presbyterian, 188 Rockland Street, Rockport.  The Reverend Stephen Tracy will officiate.

Church, 82, died Monday, May 6, 2013, at his home after a period of declining health.

Born in Jonesport, September 25, 1930, he was the son of Charles A. and Susie E. Merchant Church.  He was educated in local schools and was a 1949 graduate of Jonesport High School.  

After beginning studies at the University of Maine, Carrol enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951.   He served with the Air Force 20 years, until his retirement in 1971, having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.   

Following his military discharge, Carrol moved back to Jonesport, and returned to college as a non-traditional student, earning a B.S. in Education from the University of Southern Maine in 1976.

He later moved to Rockland, where he was employed five years as a corrections officer at Maine State Prison.

May 29th, 1987, he married Elizabeth Wendelaar in Rockland.  The couple moved to Warren in 1999, where they have since resided.

For several years, with his wife, Carrol attended Littlefield Memorial Baptist Church in Rockland.  More recently he attended Warren Baptist Church.

He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America and United Bikers Association.  For many years, and until retiring due to illness last year, he enjoyed volunteering at the Owls Head Transportation Museum. 

Predeceased by his sister, Laura Chandler, Carol is survived by his wife, Elizabeth and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon, Monday, May 13th at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock Street, Rockland.  A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 14th at Ocean View Cemetery, Route 73, South Thomaston.  The Rev. Dr. Linwood Welch will officiate.   In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Bread for the Journey Food Pantry, C/O Warren Baptist Church, P.O. Box 294, Warren, ME 04864. Matt was a graduate of Oxford Academy in Westbrook, CT and Maine College of Art in Portland, ME.  He was a gifted woodworker and the proprietor of Notch Woodworking, a small business he originally founded in Skowhegan, ME.  

He was volunteer ski instructor for disabled youth for Maine Adaptive Skiing every winter and a volunteer DJ for Reggae Reprieve on WERU.  He was passionate about photography, nature, cooking, reading, the Red Sox, University of Maine hockey, and Maine Public Radio.  Matt will be remembered for his wit, his generous heart, and his keen eye.  

He is survived by his parents, Robert and Susan Jorgensen of Burlington, CT; his sisters, Amy Jorgensen of Portland, ME and Stacy Jorgensen of Winooski, VT; his partner, Shelly Colantonio of Union, ME; and his beloved cat, Casey.

Memorial service and burial will be private.

Baldwin

ROCKLAND, MAINE and ESSEX, CONNECTICUT - Robert John Baldwin, “Grandad” to 6 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, died peacefully in his sleep on April 23, at age 97 after a full and active life.  He was born in Stamford, Connecticut, on June 13, 1915, to Catherine Louise and Louis Austin Baldwin.

He graduated from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, with a D.D.S. and practiced dentistry in 
Essex, CT, until retirement at age 82 after 56 years.  He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII and later married the love of his life, Lucille Carol Fogg.  They had four sons, Robert, Richard, Douglas, and Peter.  Lucille preceded Bob in death on August 25, 1979.

Bob had many friends and would often say “Family and friends….that’s what life is all about”.  He was loved and admired by all who knew him.  He was a member of Rotary and a community volunteer, with interests in tennis, bowling, camping and canoeing.  He was a devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, giving and receiving great joy.  He held on to life at the end so that he could say good-bye to each and every one of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren!  He is survived by Robert and Janice Baldwin of Rockport, ME, Richard and Rosemary Baldwin of Belfast, ME, Douglas Baldwin of Middletown, CT, and Peter and Shiamala Baldwin of Park City, Utah.  Grandchildren and spouses are Eric and Lynn Kim Baldwin, Jennifer and Martin Mackey, Brian and Kerry Baldwin, Sarah and Todd McIlroy, Holly and Gary Howell, Anna Baldwin and Skeet Shepherd, and great-grandchildren, Ella and Erica Baldwin, Elisse and Wyeth Mackey, Mara and Aran Baldwin, Madeleine, Liam, and Maeve McIlroy, Hayley, Payton, Chloe, and Elorie Howell, and Jackson Shepherd.

He had very dear friends at Bartlett Woods in Rockland where he has lived the past four years.  We wish to thank the devoted staff of Bartlett Woods for taking such good care of him over the years.

Eaton, 97, died Sunday, March 31, 2013, after a long illness at Windward Gardens in Camden. 
Born in Rockland, December 25, 1915, she was the daughter of John W. and Myra L. Gray Watts.  Educated in local schools, she was a 1934 graduate of Rockland High School.
In December of 1938, she married Sheldon M. Eaton in New York.  Except for the first three years of their marriage when they lived in New London, CT, the couple resided in Rockland all their married lives.  Mr. Eaton died September 27, 1971. 
Mrs. Eaton was a long-time active member of Penobscot View Grange No. 388 in Glen Cove and a member of the Limerock Valley Pomona Grange, No. 30.  For several years she enjoyed membership in the Rockland Senior Citizens. 
Mrs. Eaton is survived by one son, William K. Eaton and his wife Florence of Rockland; a brother, Chester ‘Timothy’ Brown and his wife Mary of Orange, CA; two grandchildren, Michael F. Eaton and his wife Wendy of Hope, Mathew A. Eaton and his companion Erin Vinson of Bangor; two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Adam Eaton of Hope; and one cousin, Julia Brackett of Rockland.
A private family service will be held at a later date in Seaview Cemetery, Rockland.

Brown, 65, died March 25, 2013, at Penobscot Bay Medical Center, Rockport, following a three-year battle with cancer.

She was born April 6, 1947, in Gloversville, NY, the daughter of Frederick and Dorothy May Hesner Pettit.  
She was a graduate of Wells (NY) Central High School, where she was president of her class and student council, editor of the school newspaper and a cheerleader.

She had a long career in advertising sales, leadership development and chamber of commerce management, including ten years as membership services director at the Poughkeepsie (NY) Area Chamber of Commerce.  She cared deeply about helping businesses and nonprofit organizations succeed with their marketing and advertising efforts.  She also worked with the developmentally disabled, helping them to achieve personal and professional goals, develop their self-esteem and increase their independence.  She was honored in the 1990s with the Dutchess County (NY) YWCA’s Salute to Women Award.

Her hobbies included knitting and crocheting and other needlework.  She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed books about history and politics. 

After living many years in Dutchess County, she moved to Waldoboro and worked several years in advertising sales for Courier Publications in Rockland and Camden. 

She married Richard H. Brown in Rockland May 29, 2004; he survives in Waldoboro. She is also survived by a son, Glenn D. Good of Fishkill, NY; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Theodore V. and Merrilee Brown of Warren, and their children, Susanna Morrow and her family of Binghamton, NY, and Katrina Nygaard and her family of Thompson Falls, MT; her husband’s children, Wesley Worden of Kissimmee, FL, Richard H. Brown Jr., of Kutztown, PA, and Jill Bourque and her husband, Brandon, of Gainesville, FL; her first husband, David Good of Keystone Heights, FL; and many friends, including Wilma Jaffe of Oakland, CA, and Kristin Hansen-Burk of Clinton Corners, NY.

A memorial service will be held at Pemaquid Point at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 6th.  A graveside service will be held at Union Valley Cemetery, Mahopac, NY, and will be announced. Memorial donations may be made to Waldoboro Public Library, 958 Main St., Waldoboro, ME 04572; or Gateway Foundation, 1 Amy Kay Parkway, Kingston, NY 12401.

Ari leaves behind a loving family that was anxiously awaiting her arrival, including her parents, two brothers, Dakota and Cole MacDonald; a sister, Madison Peters all of Thomaston; her grandparents, Vangie Dudley and her husband Henry of Waldoboro, Stan Robbins of Rockland, Cindy Potvin and her husband Phil of Searsmont, Wayne Peters and his wife Edith of Waldoboro; as well as many other family members in Maine, Florida, Georgia, and Japan.
